Q. How long does therapy last?
A: Most therapy lasts for about 12-16 sessions given a specific question or difficulty to address. If the clinical focus is more broad, therapy often lasts longer. Sometimes my clients engage in regular therapy for months and then see me "as needed" after that as they age.
Q: How often should we come?
Typically, therapy starts weekly then reduces to bi-weekly and monthly, as needed. Frequency depends on the urgency of your needs and your availability.
Q: Will my insurance cover your service?
A: I am paneled as an in-network provider with BCBS (excluding Blue Value plans) and the NC State Health Plan. You may have a copay or deductible. Please call your provider before your first appointment so you know how much therapy will cost you. I am also out-of-network with other providers. If you wish to file out-of-network benefits, I can give you the appropriate paperwork. Please be aware that each individual's insurance coverage is different, and it is best to check with your insurance company prior to seeking reimbursement.
Q: What are your fees?
A: For clients who do not have insurance or who wish to self-pay, my fees are:
$170 for the initial intake session (the first appointment)
$150 for subsequent individual, couple, and family therapy, which is a 50-minute appointment
Payment can be in cash, check, or credit card, including HSA cards. I am more than happy to discuss your financial needs. Nearly everyone would like to discuss this issue and I am very comfortable doing so; please feel free to bring this issue to my attention if you'd like to discuss it further.
Q: Where are you located?
A: My office is located in Cotswold, NC. I also offer virtual appointments for clients living in North Carolina.
Q: Will therapy interfere with my child's school?
Sometimes, missing brief amounts of time from school is needed to receive therapy. In the case when school is missed, a doctor's note can be provided. It is important to balance a teen's emotional needs with academic demands and extra-curricular activities.
Q: How will my information be kept confidential?
A: When working with adults (i.e., people 18 and older) and parents of children, the relationship we enter into as client and therapist will remain completely confidential. If I happen to see you in public, I will let you make the decision to say "hi" first or not at all. When working with minors, I collaborate with parents to find a balance to maintain a teen's privacy and trust while keeping parents informed of essential information. I will not disclose information to outside parties unless under circumstances that are mandated by law. If you would like me to speak with someone else about your care, I am happy to do so after you sign the appropriate HIPPA paperwork.
Q: Do you provide emergency services?
A: I do not provide on-call emergency services. For established clients, I use both a text, voicemail and e-mail system to receive messages from clients. Messages are checked frequently throughout the day, beginning at 8:00 am and ending at 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday, excluding weekends, holidays, and vacations. In the case of a true emergency, call 911.
Q: What if I am unhappy with something that happens during therapy?
A: I strive to provide excellent services with the aim of helping my clients before all else. I chose this profession, as I truly enjoy working with young people and their families. If anything happens that you do not like, please let me know, and we can address it collaboratively. Rarely, I need to make a mandated report about suspected child abuse or break confidentiality to reach a loved one or medical facility during an emergency. While these things sometimes happen, I will do my best to explain when and why that could happen ahead of time. If you have any concerns, please let me know so you feel comfortable and can benefit the most from therapy.
Q: How do I get started?
Please call or e-mail me to set up an intake appointment. Before you come in for your appointment, I will e-mail you initial paperwork forms for you to complete, including a medical history and insurance information. Then you're all set.
If you have any other questions about my services, I'd be happy to talk to you about them. E-mail often results in a quicker response time from me.
