A bit about me and my professional background - I grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio. I earned a BFA from the Ohio State University with a major in fine art and minors in math and philosophy. After realizing I enjoyed talking with middle schoolers about their feelings more than teaching them art, I decided to pursue a career in psychology. I received a PhD in Clinical Health Psychology from UNC Charlotte and completed my pre-doctoral internship at the Western Carolina University Counseling Center. While a graduate student, I received a certificate in Gender and Women's Studies, taught child and adolescent psychology, and completed internships at Carolina Medical Center's IOP program for adolescents and at Carolina Rehabilitation. My dissertation was written about deliberate self-harm among young women, exploring a feminist developmental framework model of treatment. At WCU, I led a mindfulness group and provided suicide prevention training and outreach. I am a licensed psychologist in NC (#4220) and a member of the Mecklenburg Psychological Association, the Charlotte Transgender Healthcare Group, the North Carolina Psychological Association, and the DBT Charlotte Consortium.
My background of being a white, female, hetero, cis person in America is a cultural background that shaped my development. Working with clients of diverse identities is an honor and privilege. I am aim to be an ally for people who experience minority stress in regards to gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity, and/or culture. I believe clients are the experts of their own life, and I work particularly hard to listen to and learn from clients with backgrounds different from mine.
After having lived in Ohio and Colorado, I am happy to call Charlotte home. I live near Cotswold with my husband and three young children.
The right fit with a therapist and openness to change are essential in treatment. If you are ready to explore therapy, I would love to be of help. Please contact me with any questions or to set up an initial appointment. E-mail is the preferred method of contact, and I will do my best to return your email within 1-2 business days.
