Are you a parent of a teen who is struggling? Are you a young adult who is seeking professional support for a problem? I hope this website can be a useful tool for you. Please read about my services to see if I may be able to help you.
First, I'd like to acknowledge that taking the first step to learn more about therapy is an accomplishment. By visiting this page, you are on a path to take better care of yourself or a loved one. Therapy can be a way to build strengths, learn more about oneself, and find support during difficult times. Often, one of the most difficult steps in therapy is just showing up. My aim is to normalize the experience of therapy and work collaboratively with you to reach your goals.
I work with teens and young adults, including families when possible. As a cis, white provider, I am a proud ally to LGBTQ+ youth and aim to have a safe, affirming space for all people.
One of the joys of working with youth is that I believe small interventions during this time have the potential to lead to significant improvements over the rest of the lifespan. I believe most families can repair relationships and grow closer during therapy.
Therapy with me generally evolves in three general phases. First, we will get to know each other, explore your concerns, and set goals. Next, we will do the "hard work" of therapy that involves thinking about things and acting in new ways. I tailor specific therapeutic techniques to the needs of each client. Generally I have found Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Humanistic and Existential approaches, spiritual, and mindfulness modalities within a humanistic approach to be helpful for many clients. I also enjoy using creative and interactive activities when possible. Finally, we will work in the "maintenance" phase of therapy that involves solidifying changes and maintaining growth. It is a wonderful, bittersweet day when a client "graduates" and continues their journey independently, hopefully taking a piece of our therapeutic relationship with them.
